What does the new Bill mean for Pheasants and Partridges?

Scottish Gamekeepers lobbied against changes to pheasants and partridge releases in the Natural Environment Bill

The new Natural Environment Bill in a Nutshell:

What are the changes you need to know about?

Pheasants/Partridges

An Amendment by Beatrice Wishart MSP would have obligated Scottish Government to assess the impacts caused by the release of pheasants and partridges, as part of a proposed wider Non-Native species Action Plan.

The SGA and fellow sector partners briefed Officials and Ministers on this issue rigorously, providing evidence and reassurance that this measure was unnecessary.

Minister Gillian Martin MSP did not support the amendment but instead stated that Environmental Standards Scotland were currently assessing the impacts of invasive non-native species, generally, and committed Scottish Government to consider this report carefully in due course.
