GWT is taking to the road to take gamekeeping families Into the Future

The Gamekeepers’ Welfare Trust (GWT) has planned a series of free roadshows across the UK specially designed for all those making a living in any of the  gamekeeping roles and their wives, husbands and partners.

Into the Future is a free GWT roadshow bringing workshops and discussions out to venues across the country. Topics are relevant and content has been developed to ensure it’s practical and applicable to real life situations. Participants can expect useful and engaging discussion on planning for the future, housing and accommodation, health and wellbeing, shotguns and firearms licensing, education and training, and resilience and communication.

Helen MJ Benson, CEO of the charity, says “We’ve done a lot of consultation over recent years, with both those working in gamekeeping roles and their spouses and partners. That’s resulted in new opportunities for our beneficiaries, including free counselling and our Nurse Advice Clinic. We’ve always been mindful that working in a gamekeeping role is very much a lifestyle which is lived by everyone in the family, not just one person, and that’s why our varied offer has always been about the whole household rather than one person. It’s to the benefit of our countryside that we support families and relationships. For example, if things go wrong and break-ups occur, we sometimes lose good people from these jobs, as a lifestyle that works for a family may not work for separated parents trying to manage consistency for their children. So we’ve planned Into the Future to be for partners and spouses as much as it is for gamekeepers, stalkers, riverkeepers and ghillies.”
