Bruce discussed the potential impacts of the Wildlife Management and Muirburn Bill, in the context of preventing and tackling wildfire.
Key themes were that the Bill could place Scotland’s precious peatlands at greater risk.
He also expressed concern that a restrictive licensing scheme could see more of Scotland’s uplands un-managed, leaving them ‘ripe for a wildfire to come through and cause damage.’
The SGA recognises the scenarios described by Bruce and will be discussing this with Scottish Government officials this week, ahead of the final stage of the Bill.
