Peregrine: Pentland Hills

The SGA has been approached by media for comments regarding a Peregrine found dead in an illegal pole trap in the Pentland Hills.

There are no gamekeepers operating on the ground where the bird was found.

“The setting of an illegal trap in this manner is inexcusable and abhorrent and should not be conflated in any way with professional trapping which is carried out by gamekeepers," said an SGA Spokesman.

“There are lots of questions arising from this crime, the main one being why someone would set an illegal trap in a place where it would be 100% guaranteed to be found, and found quickly.

“Over 600 000 people visit the Pentland Hills annually for walking, cycling and recreation."
