Atlantic salmon by Laurie Campbell
Scottish Government is consulting on whether catch and release should become mandatory across ALL Scottish rivers, no matter their conservation grading.
It is essential members respond to the consultation, which can be found, here: https://consult.gov.scot/marine-scotland/salmon-proposed-river-gradings-2023/ by next Friday (Sept 9th).
Last year 95% of all rod caught salmon were returned in Scotland, with 99% of all Spring salmon also returned to the water through catch and release.
Scottish Government is now consulting on whether more needs to be done to encourage greater voluntary take-up OR move to a legislative option in future to make catch and release mandatory on all Scottish rivers.
