Bird Flu and the impact on the Shooting Season

Pheasants enjoying the wide open spaces in the Scottish Borders.

SGA members have been contacting us regarding how bird flu will impact the importation of eggs from France for the forthcoming shooting season.

This is a matter of real concern for us all.

The SGA is liaising closely with counterparts in England to seek absolute clarity on this issue, with several different interpretations of the rules regarding quarantine emerging in recent days.

Despite some French game farms moving out of restriction zones on June 1st and expectations growing that eggs could arrive weeks after, clarity is still being sought on the legal position regarding quarantine.

One thing is certain is that shoots should contact their suppliers so they can choose what to do for the forthcoming season.

We will update members as soon as we have definitive information.
