Stalker, Atholl Estates (North end)

Duties include management of wild deer population
• Carry out stag and hind cull in accordance with Estate instructions and SNH Good Practice Guidance in a competent and professional manner compliant to all relevant codes of good practice
• Retrieve all carcasses and prepare them for uplift by the game marketing dealer directly from the Estate larder. Carcasses to be prepared in accordance with guidelines as set out by the Estate or Dealer
• Maintain larder records as directed by the Estate or SNH
• Maintain larder in clean and hygienic condition at all times
• Maintain firearms in good condition and secure at all times
• Carry out deer population counts as directed by the Estate or SNH
• Liaison with Game Dealer for carcass collection
• Participation in Deer Management Group initiatives
• Care and maintenance of Estate rifles ensuring a minimum of one service annually through recognised gunsmith.

General Manager/Head Keeper, Small Perthshire Estate

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the estate, deer stalking and fishing programmes and all associated duties, development and management of small deer park, dealing with Clients at all levels, clay pigeon shooting instruction, along with general estate repairs and supervision of a hydro station. 

Previous deer stalking experience is essential with the successful applicant being enthusiastic, responsible, self-motivated and have a love of the outdoors.  A driving licence is essential and certificates of training for chainsaws, first aid and argo desirable with the opportunity of further training available. Some financial responsibility and management are required.

Excellent remuneration package available to include a recently refurbished 3 bedroomed house.

Camusrory, one of the most remote Estates on the West Coast of Scotland, accessible only by boat from Mallaig, is looking for an Estate Manager/Stalker.

The position would suit a single person or a couple, provided that the “other half” is willing to work as a seasonally employed housekeeper and occasional cook for the Lodge. Successful applicants will be able to fulfil a variety of roles with requirements being estate and property maintenance and management, people management, stalking and hill management and boat management.

The Estate is off grid and has a hydro, generators and inverters, it has a significant amount of equipment including boats, digger, telehandler and machinery and has a variety of properties all of which need to be maintained. The applicant should have excellent mechanical skills. There are 2-3 other employees which the applicant will be expected to organise and keep safe. The flora and fauna must be managed sustainably and 15 stags/30 hinds are shot annually. Several hundred hours are spent annually on boats in all-weathers and applicants must be competent or willing to learn.

Personal attributes required: reliable, resilient, highly competent, mechanical, enthusiastic, loves the hill, knows deer, happy in remote areas, sense of humour, good with guests and family alike.

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 for a single person, plus, if a couple, an additional £8,000 - £10,000 for the seasonal housekeeping role.  Accommodation included.  Must have UK right-to-work.

Elmwood College Graduate Gamekeeping Student - Position Wanted

Elmwood College student where he was studying gamekeeping

From college he gained qualifications and valuable experience in the gamekeeping industry. He gained his Safe Shot qualification, Deer Biology and Quarry Species. He also gained experience in Deer Stalking, caring for and feeding pheasants and also running our own shoot on our estate. Also through this he has gained good communication skills and confidence.
