The Scottish Gamekeepers Association is passing on a request from the parasitology team at the Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera) for members in the South East of Scotland to help Fera with a project on trichinella.
The agency is urgently looking for a supply of fresh fox carcasses from across Britain and is trying to build a network of people who may be able to assist in the project to support the UK’s trichinella-free status.
Trichinella is a nematode parasite and is responsible for the disease, trichinosis.
Workers from Fera will generally organise collection of freshly killed foxes from the South East of Scotland area.
If you can help and are interested in doing so, please contact Tilly Stephens, Wildlife Research Analyst at tilly.stephens@fera.gsi.gov.uk
