Why oh why is Scotland the only country in the UK to still have the ban on tail docking of working dogs?

December 20th

Just back in from ferreting a plantation of young larch and scots pine trees. I am soaked to the skin and frozen. My daughter is visiting us with her boyfriend and I thought it would be a good chance for him to see some different animal tracks in the snow.

December 9th

I am not a happy chappy. I was cutting old rabbit fences away this morning and my ear is bleeding profusely. I detest that high tensile wire; when you cut it with the wire cutters it goes off like a coiled spring. It felt like I had been shot in the ear.

Committee & Staff

SGA members are involved in rural management from water to high groundThe SGA national committee is made up of gamekeepers, stalkers and ghillies from across the country, with representatives coming from the Borders, the Highlands, the North-east and as far north as Caithness. Regular meetings are held centrally in Perth, usually on a Sunday, the least busy day of the week for Keepers. The national committee is supported by regional committees, who provide local contact and feedback.

Drawn from regional groups, national committee members sit entirely voluntarily, in most cases sacrificing a day off to attend meetings. Items for discussion at meetings are raised either at national or regional committee levels for inclusion on the agenda. The main regional committees are based in the West Highlands, Central Highlands, North-East Scotland, Angus Glens, Borders and South-West Scotland areas. The SGA office will be pleased to help put you in contact with local representatives.

The office staff are responsible for day-to-day member administration, the collection of subscriptions and fund-raising activities. Fund-raising includes the compilation and running of the annual Silent Auction, raffles and a whole range of other initiatives. The staff are also responsible for our presence at shows and fairs including the Scone Game Fair, the Moy Highland Game Fair and other regional events throughout the year.
