Many gamekeepers and stalkers will be having a well deserved rest after spending some very long days and nights working throughout the season and there is only a small window before it starts all over again.

Just back in from ferreting a plantation of young larch and scots pine trees. I am soaked to the skin and frozen. My daughter is visiting us with her boyfriend and I thought it would be a good chance for him to see some different animal tracks in the snow.

AGM DATE AND VENUE ANNOUNCED

The date and venue for this year's Scottish Gamekeepers Association AGM has been announced.
All members are cordially invited to the Kingsmills Suite, Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Stadium Road, Inverness  on Friday 2nd March 2012.
Registration, at which bacon rolls will be served, will begin at 9am with all members requiring membership cards for entrance.
The business part of this year's meeting will be preceded by a morning media announcement/conference regarding an important SGA initiative.
Members are invited to attend this part and will be permitted to ask questions, following the close of the official media conference.
After the news announcement and questions, there will be guest speakers including Robbie Kernahan from SNH and Sir Edward Mountain (tbc), who will devote his talk to the subject of buzzard licensing.
There will also be usual AGM business, with a target closing time of 1.15pm.
A buffet lunch will then be served at a cost of £5 per head.
