The joys of modern communications.

I ordered some memory cards for my camera on- line which came by parcel force. No one was here to sign for the small package so they were handed into our local post office.

Yesterday I attended the Scottish Police Wildlife Liaison Conference at the Police College at Tulliallan.

Many gamekeepers and stalkers will be having a well deserved rest after spending some very long days and nights working throughout the season and there is only a small window before it starts all over again.

13th September

What horrendous weather for the grouse lads!  I heard last night about some nightmare grouse drives this week where the wind was all but blowing beaters and guns off the moors and swollen burns were creating havoc with the management of the day. The storms couldn't have come at a worse time.

On the estate here we've had a bit of damage - a few  trees were uprooted and the poor second hatch of swallows in the tool shed are still lacking the strength to get away. I've been watching their parents bringing food to them but even the insect life seems to be lying low and some of the gusts were certainly challenging their flying skills!

The only thing that's looking good just now is the game crop I sowed down near the forestry plantation. It's known as a Poacher Seed mix, with canary grass and phacelia which currently is currently in bloom, and by next month my pheasants will be in there enjoying the shelter and seeds as well as some wheat to give them a bit of energy over the winter.

I can't believe I'm thinking about winter already!
